The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have announced their retentions for the upcoming season, notably releasing their captain Shreyas Iyer. The team retained six players – Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh. The decision, as explained by KKR managing director Venky Mysore, was a challenging one, particularly given the limited number of retention slots allowed.
