JEE Main 2025: Optional Questions Removed

JEE Main 2025: Optional Questions Removed
  • JEE Main exam changes for 2025
  • Optional questions are discontinued
  • Section B now has five required questions

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced significant changes to the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) for the upcoming 2025 academic year. One of the most notable changes is the discontinuation of optional questions in Section B of the exam. This optional question format was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic as a temporary measure to alleviate the challenges faced by students due to the pandemic's disruptions.

The NTA's decision to remove optional questions in Section B aligns with the World Health Organization's (WHO) recent declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic as an end of public health emergency. The optional format, which allowed students to attempt any five questions out of a total of 10 in Section B, was implemented in 2021 and remained in place for the 2022, 2023, and 2024 JEE Main exams. However, with the pandemic's global impact significantly easing, the NTA has decided to revert to the original exam structure for 2025.

The upcoming JEE Main exam will see Section B consist of only five questions per subject, and students will be required to attempt all five without any option for selection. This change applies to Paper 1 (BE/BTech), Paper 2A (BArch), and Paper 2B (B Planning). The NTA's notification emphasizes that this return to the original format is designed to ensure fairness and consistency across all candidates while maintaining the integrity of the examination process. Students preparing for the JEE Main 2025 exam should be aware of these changes and adjust their study plans accordingly. The registration process for the exam is expected to begin shortly.
