Jamia Campus Security Tightened After Diwali Clash
  • Security heightened at Jamia campus
  • Diwali celebrations sparked violence
  • ABVP plans another event

The Jamia Millia Islamia campus in Delhi has seen heightened security following a violent clash between students during Diwali celebrations. The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, was sparked by a group of students disrupting a Diwali event organized by the Rashtriya Kala Manch (RKM), a wing of the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The ABVP, undeterred by the violence, has announced plans to hold another 'deep mahotsav' on Wednesday evening.

The university administration, however, has not granted permission for any Diwali celebrations within the campus. Furthermore, the Delhi Police has confirmed that they did not issue any permits for celebrations outside the campus either. Despite the lack of authorization, the ABVP proceeded with their event, leading to the confrontation that escalated into violence.

The incident, which involved students chanting what are being described as 'communal' slogans, has sparked concerns about the growing religious tensions on campus. Videos of the clashes are circulating on social media, further fueling the controversy. The Delhi Police, in response to the escalating situation, has deployed personnel outside the university gates and around the campus as a precautionary measure. The local police have also been instructed to increase their vigilance around the campus to prevent further incidents.

The clash highlights the deep-seated tensions that exist within the university and the wider Indian society. It also raises concerns about the role of student organizations in promoting communal harmony. The upcoming ABVP event will be closely watched to see if it can be conducted peacefully and without any further incidents of violence.
