On Tuesday, a wave of bomb threats disrupted the operations of ten IndiGo flights, adding to a recent surge of similar incidents targeting Indian airlines. The affected flights included routes from Mangaluru to Mumbai, Ahmedabad to Jeddah, Lucknow to Pune, Hyderabad to Jeddah, Istanbul to Mumbai, Delhi to Dammam, Bengaluru to Jeddah, Istanbul to Delhi, Kozhikode to Jeddah, and Delhi to Jeddah. Despite the alarming nature of the threats, IndiGo reassured the public that all passengers disembarked safely. The airline emphasized its commitment to prioritizing the safety and security of its customers and crew, highlighting the adherence to standard operating procedures during these situations.
This incident comes amidst a concerning trend of bomb threats directed at Indian airlines. Over the past week, more than 120 flights operated by Indian carriers have faced similar threats. While these threats have been determined to be hoaxes, authorities are treating them with utmost seriousness, acknowledging the potential for disruption and panic. The Civil Aviation Minister, K Rammohan Naidu, has stressed the need to take such threats seriously, despite their false nature.
The government is actively seeking to address this alarming trend with legislative measures aimed at deterring and punishing those responsible for bomb threats. Plans are underway to introduce policies that could include placing perpetrators on no-fly lists. These measures reflect the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the aviation sector, while also seeking to prevent the spread of fear and uncertainty among passengers.
