The city of Delhi, India, is preparing for the grand celebration of Dussehra, or Vijayadashami, a festival that marks the triumph of good over evil. This year, the festivities take on a monumental scale with the unveiling of the tallest Ravana effigy ever constructed in India. Standing at an impressive 211 feet, the effigy, crafted with meticulous detail by a team of over 40 artisans, dominates the skyline of Dwarka Sector 10.

This colossal structure is not just a visual spectacle; it carries a powerful message about the societal struggle against moral decay. Rajesh Gehlot, an organizer with the Dwarka Shree Ram Leela Society, explained, "As we can see, sin is increasing in society, so this effigy symbolizes the growing sins, and we will burn them all on Dussehra, that is, on October 12, 2024." The act of burning the effigy on Dussehra, symbolizing the defeat of the evil demon Ravana, serves as a symbolic act of cleansing and renewal.

The effigy's construction is a testament to the intricate artistry and craftsmanship that are hallmarks of Indian cultural traditions. Constructed from iron and adorned with a velvet outfit, the effigy stands on a foundation that extends 10 feet into the ground, ensuring stability for its immense size. The effigy, which was completed at a cost of approximately Rs 30 lakhs, took nearly four months to build, showcasing the dedication and skill of the artisans involved. The effigy surpasses the previous record holder, a 92-foot-high replica of Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, solidifying its place as the tallest in the country.

The ceremonial burning of the effigy, a highlight of Dussehra celebrations, will be attended by prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders. This event signifies the unity and hope that permeate the festival, emphasizing the victory of good over evil. The towering effigy serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle against moral corruption and a symbol of the hope for a brighter future.
