India on verge of WTC final berth after Bangladesh win
  • India won the 2nd Test against Bangladesh.
  • India leads the WTC standings with 98 points.
  • India can qualify for the final by beating NZ 3-0.

India's dominant performance in the recent Test series against Bangladesh has propelled them closer to securing a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the third consecutive time. Their decisive 7-wicket victory in the second Test at Kanpur, following a comprehensive win in the first match, solidified their position at the top of the WTC standings.

With eight wins, two losses, and a draw from 11 matches, India currently holds a commanding 98 points, translating to a points percentage of 74.24. This resounding triumph against Bangladesh has significantly bolstered their chances of qualifying for the final, scheduled to take place at Lord's in June 2025.

A clean sweep against New Zealand in the upcoming three-Test series at home would guarantee India a place in the WTC final even before their tour of Australia. However, even if they don't manage a 3-0 victory, a strong performance against New Zealand will be crucial for maintaining their lead in the standings.

The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a five-match Test series against Australia starting on November 22 in Perth, will be a battle for both pride and the top spot in the WTC standings. Despite Australia's current second-place position with 90 points and a points percentage of 62.50, India are favored to retain their dominance in the series.

Sri Lanka, currently in third place with a points percentage of 55.56, has a slim chance of catching up with Australia. However, their chances heavily rely on a successful outcome in their upcoming two Tests against South Africa. India's performance in the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia will be crucial in determining their final position in the WTC standings and their chances of clinching the coveted final spot.
