The Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 season is gearing up for an exciting start, with the two-day men's auction taking place in Delhi. Eight teams engaged in fierce bidding wars to secure the talents of India's bronze-medal winning squad from the Paris Olympics, as well as some of the world's best international players. The most expensive player on the opening day was Harmanpreet Singh, the captain, defender, and penalty corner specialist for the Indian team. The 25-year-old player from Sonipat proved his mettle at the Paris Olympics, scoring vital goals against Belgium and Australia in the final group stage matches. His impressive display earned him a hefty price tag of Rs 72 lakh. Alongside Harmanpreet, he was one of the top-earning Indian players.
The most expensive foreign player to be acquired on day 1 was Gonzalo Peillat, a German defender who is set to play for Hyderabad Toofans. Peillat, known for his pivotal role in Argentina's Rio Olympics victory, has since switched nationalities and made his mark with the German team. His impressive performances, including a four-goal haul at the Paris Olympics, attracted a bid of Rs 68 lakh, showcasing his experience and talent.
