Incessant rainfall across parts of southern India has led to school closures in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The heavy downpours, which have been impacting the region for several days, have prompted authorities to prioritize the safety of students and educators.
Schools in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, will remain closed on Thursday, October 17th, due to the heavy rainfall. The state government has extended this closure to schools and colleges in four districts: Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpet. Similarly, schools in Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, will also be closed on Thursday due to an impending cyclone and the city's recent experience of heavy rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy to extreme rainfall in various districts of Andhra Pradesh. In response, authorities have announced the closure of schools, colleges, and other educational institutes until Friday, October 1st, in several districts including West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati. The closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students during the anticipated heavy rainfall.
