A chilling case of murder and deception has unfolded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, culminating in the arrest of a gym trainer, Vimal Soni. Soni stands accused of the brutal murder of a 32-year-old woman, the wife of a prominent city businessman, who had been missing for four months. The victim, who had visited the gym at Green Park Stadium on June 24th, was last seen with Soni, leading her husband to file a missing person's report and accuse Soni of drugging her protein shake and luring her away.
After a meticulous investigation spanning four months, the truth came to light. Soni, residing in Shakkar Mill Khalwa, Raipurwa, was apprehended by the Kotwali police on Saturday. During interrogation, Soni confessed to his heinous crime, revealing that he had killed the woman and buried her body within the premises of the Officers Club, located adjacent to the District Magistrate's bungalow. The police, accompanied by a forensic team, excavated the spot and recovered the victim's body around 12.30am, with the excavation supervised by Additional Police Commissioner for Law and Order Harish Chander.
Soni's motive for the murder stemmed from a turbulent relationship with the victim. The two had allegedly been involved, but their affair turned sour when Soni's marriage was arranged elsewhere. In a fit of rage, Soni attacked the woman in his car, fatally injuring her. He then disposed of her body at the Officers Club, meticulously concealing his crime for months. The revelation of this brutal act four months after its occurrence highlights the meticulous nature of Soni's attempt to evade justice.
The investigation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East Shrawan Kumar Singh, proved challenging due to Soni's calculated efforts to avoid detection. He had refrained from using a mobile phone or accessing his bank accounts, further hindering the police's efforts to trace him. Investigation teams were dispatched to Pune, Agra, and Punjab, eventually locating Soni in Punjab, where he had been employed at a hotel, maintaining a low profile. The hotel owner revealed that Soni kept to himself, working long hours and avoiding interaction with others.
Soni's initial attempts to deceive the authorities extended to his claims of dumping the victim's body in the Ganga river. However, persistent interrogation eventually led him to confess to the actual location of the burial. The recovery of the woman's body four months after her death serves as a chilling reminder of the devastating consequences of Soni's actions and the enduring efforts of the police in seeking justice for the victim and her family.
