Five New Judges Appointed to Kerala High Court
  • Five new judges sworn in at Kerala High Court.
  • Four judges were recommended by the Kerala High Court Collegium.
  • One judge's appointment was reiterated by the Supreme Court Collegium.

The Kerala High Court has welcomed five new judges, bringing the number of vacancies down to two. These appointments mark a significant step towards addressing the backlog of cases and ensuring efficient judicial proceedings in the state. The newly sworn-in judges are a testament to the judiciary's commitment to maintaining a strong and independent legal system.

The process leading up to these appointments involved careful deliberation and recommendations from both the Kerala High Court Collegium and the Supreme Court Collegium. The Kerala High Court Collegium initially recommended the elevation of four of the newly appointed judges in May 2024. These recommendations were subsequently endorsed by the Supreme Court Collegium through a resolution dated October 15. This indicates a collaborative effort between the two judicial bodies to identify and select qualified individuals for these critical roles.

The appointment of Justice PP Krishna Kumar is particularly noteworthy. His name was first recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in October of the previous year. However, due to the Central government's failure to clear the appointment at the time, the Collegium reiterated its recommendation via the October 15 resolution this year. This reiteration underscores the importance of the Collegium's recommendations and the need for timely action from the government to ensure smooth judicial appointments.
