The festive atmosphere in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, took a tragic turn on Thursday when a firecracker explosion claimed the life of one person and left six others injured. The incident occurred when two individuals, Durgasi Sudhakar (30) and Tabeti Sai, were transporting firecrackers on a scooter. As they approached the Ganganamma Temple on Thuru Veedhi in Eluru town, the vehicle encountered a speed breaker, causing the firecrackers in their bag to explode due to the sudden impact and friction.

Sudhakar, who was driving the scooter, was killed instantly in the explosion. His pillion rider, Sai, sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to the Government General Hospital in Eluru along with five other individuals who were standing by the roadside at the time of the incident. The injured bystanders were identified as S Sasi, K Srinivasa Rao, Khadar, Satish, and Suresh. They all suffered varying degrees of injuries due to the shockwave and debris from the exploding firecrackers.

Upon receiving reports of the explosion, Eluru DSP Sravan Kumar and Eluru One Town Inspector Satyannarayana promptly arrived at the scene. They oversaw the transportation of the injured to the hospital and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and the type of firecrackers involved. The incident has served as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with mishandling fireworks, particularly during festive seasons. The authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines when handling firecrackers to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
