In a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating in India, authorities have seized massive quantities of drugs in two separate operations, one in Bhopal and another in Delhi, with a combined estimated value of ₹7,434 crore. This highlights the ongoing battle against the illegal drug trade and underscores the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating this pervasive issue.
The operation in Bhopal, conducted jointly by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), resulted in the seizure of MD (mephedrone) drugs and their raw materials worth a staggering ₹1,814 crore from a factory. This discovery reflects the scale of the drug manufacturing operation and the potential for widespread distribution.
The operation in Delhi uncovered an even larger drug haul, with authorities seizing over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana from a godown in the Mahipalpur area, estimated to be worth ₹5,620 crore. This operation led to the arrest of Tushar Goyal, identified as the mastermind behind the syndicate, along with three other individuals.
The investigation into the Delhi syndicate has revealed possible links to international drug smuggling operations, with suspects allegedly having ties to the Middle East. This underscores the global nature of drug trafficking and the intricate networks involved in its operation. Authorities have issued a look out circular (LOC) against Virender Basoya, a Dubai-based businessman suspected to be involved in the cartel.
These drug busts highlight the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and abuse. The significant sums involved, the sophisticated networks, and the potential for widespread harm underscore the importance of ongoing efforts to disrupt these illicit activities. The collaboration between different agencies, as seen in the Bhopal operation, is crucial in achieving success in this fight.
