  • Two minors who were patients are suspected.
  • Police are reviewing CCTV footage for evidence.

The tragic incident unfolded at Nima Hospital in Kalindi Kunj, southeast Delhi, on Thursday morning. Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner, was found shot dead in his cabin around 1:45 am. Initial investigations point to two teenage boys, approximately 16 years old, as the likely suspects. They had been admitted to the hospital for treatment earlier that day.

One of the suspects had a bandaged toe and had previously visited the hospital the day before. Both boys went inside Dr. Akhtar's cabin after receiving treatment and the incident occurred shortly after. The night nursing staff, Gajala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil, heard a gunshot and rushed to the cabin where they discovered Dr. Akhtar in a pool of blood.

Police are currently examining CCTV footage from various locations within the hospital, including the reception area, dressing room, and gallery, to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. The incident has sent shockwaves through the medical community and raised concerns about patient safety within healthcare facilities. The investigation is ongoing as police continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.
