Delhi, grappling with the perennial issue of air pollution, has initiated a robust anti-dust campaign. This campaign, aimed at curbing the detrimental effects of dust particles on the city's air quality, has seen significant action on the ground. According to Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, 2,764 construction sites have been inspected under this campaign, with 76 notices issued for violations. These violations have resulted in fines totaling Rs 17.40 lakh, demonstrating the government's commitment to enforcing environmental regulations.
Beyond inspections and fines, the campaign employs a multi-pronged approach. 85 Mechanical Road Sweeping (MRS) machines and 500 water sprinklers have been strategically deployed across the city, working tirelessly to keep dust levels in check. Recognizing the crucial role of technology, mobile anti-smog guns are being deployed in key areas. These guns, deployed in three shifts, will operate throughout November, targeting dust pollution in hotspot zones. The minister has directed officials of the environment department to submit daily reports on the campaign's progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.
The efforts of the anti-dust campaign are particularly crucial considering the recent alarming situation in Delhi. Toxic foam was observed floating on the Yamuna River in the Kalindi Kunj area, highlighting the severe consequences of unchecked pollution. The campaign's comprehensive approach, involving rigorous inspections, deploying specialized equipment, and utilizing technology, aims to mitigate these adverse impacts. It is hoped that these measures will effectively curb dust pollution, ultimately improving the overall air quality in Delhi.
