In a major crackdown on international drug trafficking, Delhi Police's Special Cell has seized a massive 200kg consignment of cocaine, valued at a staggering Rs 2,400 crore, in the Ramesh Nagar area of west Delhi. This seizure, following a raid on Thursday, adds another significant chapter to the ongoing investigation of a cocaine ring that the Special Cell has been unraveling. The investigation has already led to the arrest of several individuals, including the alleged Delhi-based kingpin, Tushar Goyal.
The cocaine, concealed in snack packets, was part of a sophisticated operation orchestrated by a network with international connections. The Special Commissioner of Police, RP Upadhyay, confirmed the seizure, stating that a dedicated team is diligently investigating the network's intricate workings. The latest seizure has brought the total amount of Colombian cocaine recovered by the Delhi Police to a staggering Rs 9,000 crore, marking an unprecedented record. This latest operation underscores the scale of the drug trafficking operation and the efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle it.
The discovery of this second consignment, estimated to be worth Rs 2,400 crore, was a result of meticulous interrogation of arrested suspects and analysis of their digital communications, including chats on the Threema app and other technical surveillance. Investigations revealed the involvement of a UK national named Savinder Singh in handling the second consignment, while another UK resident, Jatinder Pal Singh alias Jassi, was responsible for the earlier seizure of 562kg of cocaine worth over Rs 6,500 crore. Both individuals, Jassi and Savinder, were tasked with coordinating with the Delhi-based kingpin, Tushar Goyal.
Jassi, who had travelled to India from the UK to oversee the cocaine sales, is believed to have returned to London. A look out circular has been issued for Savinder, who also fled to London shortly after the initial bust. The investigations have uncovered a complex network involving various international players. Veeru, a Dubai-based individual, played a key role in coordinating the delivery of the consignment, along with two other foreign-based operatives. These operatives, in collaboration with Goyal, were responsible for managing the massive consignment.
Authorities are actively pursuing the distributors who were to pick up the consignment from the UK nationals. Preliminary investigations suggest that prominent figures from the entertainment industry might be involved in the distribution network. The seized cocaine was intended for distribution at upcoming concerts and music festivals in Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa, raising serious concerns about the potential impact of this drug ring on the entertainment industry and society at large.
