  • CPI(M) defends ADGP transfer.
  • Govindan denies pressure from CPI.
  • Transfer linked to RSS meeting.

The transfer of Kerala ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar from Law and Order duties has sparked controversy, with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Kerala State secretary M.V. Govindan defending the decision as “a timely one.” While Govindan insists that the Kerala government has “kept its word” by taking appropriate action, his response regarding the punitive nature of the transfer remains ambiguous. He simply stated that the decision can be interpreted as “yes or no,” leaving room for speculation.

Govindan further clarified that the CPI had no influence on the decision, emphasizing that the government’s actions would be guided by the findings of an ongoing inquiry report. He assured that the ADGP’s transfer would align with the report’s recommendations.

Regarding the reasons behind the transfer to battalion duty, Govindan did not provide a direct answer. He alluded to a potential connection between the transfer and the ADGP’s alleged meeting with RSS leaders, hinting at a possible conflict of interest or a perceived threat to law and order.

The transfer has also sparked allegations of a political deal between the CPI(M) and the BJP, with LDF Independent legislator P.V. Anvar claiming a potential collaboration in the Chelakkara and Palakkad by-elections. Govindan dismissed these accusations as “nonsense,” deeming them unworthy of further explanation.

Adding to the contentious atmosphere, Left Independent MLA K.T. Jaleel’s controversial remarks regarding smuggling activities being associated with a specific community drew criticism. Govindan responded by stating that blaming a single community for such activities is “incorrect.” He urged community leaders to take responsibility and work towards changing the perception that smuggling is not a crime.
