A Hyderabad court has issued a significant order against Telangana's Forest and Environment Minister, Konda Surekha, prohibiting her from making any further defamatory statements against K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). This decision comes in response to a defamation case filed by Rama Rao, commonly known as KTR, who is seeking Rs 100 crore in damages for the alleged defamatory remarks made by the minister.
The court, taking a serious view of the comments made by Surekha against KTR, directed the removal of these remarks from all media platforms, including social media websites, channels, and print media. Furthermore, the court instructed YouTube, Facebook, and Google to delete any videos containing these remarks. The court emphasized the potential harm these comments could have on society and deemed them highly objectionable, expressing surprise that a responsible minister would make such statements.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Surekha on October 2, where she alleged KTR's involvement in the separation of actor Naga Chaitanya from Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Her allegations, along with the manner in which she presented them, led to the defamation suit filed by KTR. Naga Chaitanya's father, veteran actor Nagarjuna, has also filed a separate defamation case against Surekha.
KTR, who previously issued warnings against anyone making defamatory statements about him, believes that the court's order strengthens his position in the case. He has highlighted that Surekha's similar remarks were previously criticized by the Election Commission, but despite this, she has continued to make such statements. The court adjourned further hearings in the case to October 21.
This case highlights the importance of responsible political discourse and the need to uphold ethical standards in public life. The court's decision serves as a stern warning against the spread of misinformation and the use of defamatory language by public officials. It remains to be seen how the case will progress in the coming weeks, but the court's actions send a clear message about the consequences of making defamatory remarks.
