Chennai Metro Increases Services Due to Cyclone Alert
  • Chennai Metro will operate with increased frequency on October 15, 16 and 17.
  • Services will run from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
  • Increased frequency during peak hours on the Green and Blue Lines.

In anticipation of a cyclone alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department for Chennai, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced an increase in service frequency on October 15, 16, and 17. This proactive measure aims to ensure the smooth and safe movement of commuters during potential inclement weather conditions. The increased frequency of services is intended to accommodate the expected surge in demand for public transportation during the cyclone period. Passengers are advised to take necessary precautions and monitor weather updates throughout the day.

The CMRL has outlined a comprehensive operational plan for the three days, starting with service commencement at 5:00 AM and concluding at 11:00 PM. A meticulous timetable has been developed, emphasizing a heightened frequency of services during peak hours. On the Green Line, which runs from Puratchi Thalaivar MG Ramachandran Central Metro to St. Thomas Mount Metro, trains will operate every 5 minutes between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, and again between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. The Blue Line, connecting Airport to Wimco Nagar Depot, will see trains running every 6 minutes during the same peak hours. Passengers traveling between Washermenpet Metro and Arignar Alandur Metro will benefit from the most frequent service, with trains arriving every 3 minutes during peak periods.

To facilitate the increased frequency on the Green Line, a temporary adjustment has been made to the direct train service between Puratchi Thalaivar MG. Ramachandran Central Metro and Airport Metro via Koyambedu and Vadapalani. These direct trains will be suspended on the specified dates, requiring passengers traveling to the Airport on the Green Line to interchange at Arignar Alandur Metro. This measure is intended to optimize the overall efficiency of the Green Line service during the cyclone alert. The CMRL has indicated that these schedules will be reviewed and adjusted as needed based on the evolving weather conditions, ensuring the safety and convenience of commuters.
