On a recent journey to the Milam glacier in Uttarakhand, a helicopter carrying Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar and Additional Chief Election Officer of Uttarakhand, Vijay Kumar Jogdande, experienced unexpected turbulence. The challenging weather conditions forced the helicopter to make an emergency landing in the Pithoragarh district, approximately 42 kilometers from Munsiyari. The incident occurred around 1:30 PM, causing a brief disruption to the CEC's itinerary. However, the prompt response and safety protocols put in place ensured the well-being of all passengers on board.

Following the emergency landing in Ralam village, Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vinod Girish Goswami confirmed that both CEC Rajiv Kumar and his accompanying officials were unharmed. He stated, "I have spoken to CEC Rajiv Kumar after his chopper made an emergency landing in Ralam village due to bad weather. They are fine." The district magistrate reassured the public that they were awaiting an improvement in weather conditions to safely transport the CEC and his team back to Munsiyari. He also mentioned that if the weather remained unfavorable, they would be accommodated at the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) camp near Ralam village.

This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of weather conditions in the mountainous region of Uttarakhand. The Election Commission, known for its meticulous planning and commitment to conducting fair and transparent elections, has always prioritized the safety of officials and voters alike. In this instance, the emergency landing serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and the swift actions taken to ensure the safety of individuals involved in election-related activities. While the weather disruption caused a temporary delay, the prompt response and the well-being of the CEC and his team are paramount, allowing the Election Commission to focus on its core function of facilitating democratic processes across the country.
