The city of Bengaluru has been grappling with the aftermath of heavy rain, which has led to widespread flooding and a tragic building collapse. On Tuesday, a portion of an under-construction building in Babusapalya, east Bengaluru, caved in, trapping an estimated 10-12 people under the debris. Rescue teams have been deployed to the site, and efforts are underway to clear the debris and extricate the trapped individuals. Three people have been rescued so far, but the search continues for the remaining individuals.

The heavy rain has caused significant waterlogging in various parts of the city, disrupting daily life. Schools have been forced to close, flights and trains have been delayed, and residents in flood-affected areas have had to be evacuated. In Yelahanka, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, residents of an apartment complex were rescued using boats due to heavy flooding. The situation underscores the challenges posed by extreme weather events and the importance of robust infrastructure and emergency preparedness.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, acknowledged the severity of the situation and highlighted the government's efforts to manage the crisis. He emphasized that while nature's forces cannot be controlled, the government is taking all necessary steps to mitigate the impact on residents. He cited examples of similar situations in other parts of the world, including Dubai and Delhi, to underscore the global nature of extreme weather patterns. Shivakumar stated that pumps have been deployed to drain water from flooded areas and that teams from the state and national disaster response forces are actively engaged in relief efforts. The focus now is on ensuring the safety of residents, providing assistance to those affected by the flooding, and preventing further damage.
