The recent surge in bomb threats to flights in India continues to escalate, with Thursday witnessing at least nine more incidents targeting various airlines. This alarming trend brings the total number of such threats this week to approximately 30, raising significant concerns regarding aviation security and passenger safety. The affected airlines include five Air India flights, two Vistara flights, and one IndiGo flight, highlighting the widespread nature of these threats.
The gravity of the situation became apparent when a Vistara flight carrying 147 passengers made an emergency landing in Mumbai after receiving a bomb threat upon arrival from Frankfurt, Germany. The airline confirmed the security alert received via social media and emphasized the safe landing of the aircraft. Earlier this week, a Bengaluru-bound Akasa Air flight with 184 passengers declared an emergency and returned to Delhi after a similar threat, while a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight from Mumbai was diverted to Ahmedabad for the same reason. These incidents underscore the heightened anxiety and disruption caused by the influx of bomb threats.
In response to this growing crisis, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has convened multiple meetings with key stakeholders, including security agencies, to address the situation effectively. The ministry is actively considering implementing a no-fly list policy, aimed at deterring future threats by barring offenders from boarding any airline.
