The discovery of the body of a Territorial Army (TA) personnel, abducted by militants in the Kokernag forests of South Kashmir, has cast a somber light on the ongoing security challenges in the region. The soldier, a 26-year-old resident of Anantnag district, was reported missing on Tuesday after being abducted by militants while on a reconnaissance mission in the Kazwan forest. The Army, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and other agencies, launched a joint counter-operation on October 8th, based on intelligence inputs about militant activity in the area.
The search operation, which continued overnight, resulted in the tragic discovery of the soldier’s body on Wednesday morning. The circumstances surrounding his death are deeply disturbing. According to sources, the militants shot the soldier in the shoulder before abducting him. One of the two TA personnel initially involved in the reconnaissance mission managed to escape, sustaining an injury to his shoulder. He was subsequently rushed to the army’s 439 Field Hospital for treatment.
