The decision to lengthen notice periods stems from the growing competition faced by Blinkit from well-funded rivals like Zepto and established players like Flipkart. As these competitors aggressively pursue top talent, Blinkit has taken preemptive measures to prevent employee poaching. Zepto, in particular, has raised a significant $340 million in funding, further intensifying the race for skilled professionals. Additionally, Walmart's expansion of its Flipkart Minutes service and Swiggy's successful initial public offering (IPO) underscore the increasing competition within the sector.

Blinkit's policy not only extends notice periods but also includes strategies to mitigate the risk of sensitive information being leaked. In cases where an employee is suspected of transitioning to a direct competitor, Blinkit may implement a 'garden leave' period of two months, effectively preventing them from working for the rival during this time. Alternatively, they may be relieved of their duties immediately to prevent potential data breaches. This proactive approach highlights Blinkit's determination to safeguard its intellectual property and competitive advantage.

The talent war extends beyond Blinkit, with other major players like Swiggy actively recruiting from established e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Amazon. Swiggy, renowned for its product and design expertise, has become a target for companies seeking to bolster their digital capabilities. Amazon, known for its advertising and search capabilities, and Flipkart, with its strength in warehousing and backend operations, are also actively involved in talent acquisition.
