The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress, demanding explanations regarding alleged links between the party and Tushar Goyal, the prime accused in a major drug bust in Delhi. This accusation follows the discovery that Goyal, arrested for his alleged role in the seizure of over 560kg of cocaine and 40kg of hydroponic marijuana, was the head of the RTI cell of the Delhi Youth Congress. The BJP, through its spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, has questioned the nature and extent of these alleged connections, casting suspicion on the Congress's potential involvement in drug trafficking activities.
Trivedi, in a press conference, pointedly asked whether the drug money was being used to finance the Congress's election campaigns. He went further, suggesting that the relationship between Goyal and the Congress could extend beyond mere political affiliation, potentially encompassing financial dealings. The BJP's allegations center around a letter of appointment purportedly issued by the Congress high command to Goyal, further fueling suspicions about a deeper connection between the party and the alleged drug kingpin. The BJP has also highlighted photographs of Goyal with prominent Congress leaders like KC Venugopal and Deepender Singh Hooda, emphasizing the close proximity between the accused and influential figures within the party.
The BJP has demanded clarification from the Congress, particularly its Haryana unit and the Hooda family, regarding the nature of their association with Goyal. They have pressed for answers regarding the presence of photographs of Goyal with Deepender Hooda and the reason for his phone number being saved on Goyal's device. This incident has sparked a political controversy, with the BJP attempting to capitalize on the allegations to tarnish the Congress's image and raise doubts about its commitment to clean governance. The Congress, on the other hand, is likely to vehemently deny any involvement in the drug trafficking activities and maintain that the allegations are politically motivated.
