BJP Accuses Congress of Double Standards in Haryana Election

BJP Accuses Congress of Double Standards in Haryana Election
  • BJP criticizes Congress for celebrating victory before result.
  • Congress alleges discrepancies in Haryana vote count.
  • Exit polls predicted Congress win, but BJP may win.

The recent Haryana Assembly elections have sparked a heated political debate, with the BJP and Congress engaging in a war of words over the results. BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has accused Congress of displaying contradictory behavior, initially celebrating their perceived victory before questioning the credibility of the Election Commission (EC) regarding alleged discrepancies in voter data.

Poonawalla sarcastically pointed out the swift shift in Congress's stance, highlighting the contrasting actions of its leaders. He claimed that while Pawan Khera was distributing sweets in the morning, Congress spokespersons were criticizing the EC by midday. By the afternoon, Jairam Ramesh had raised questions about the integrity of national institutions. Poonawalla attributed these actions to a desperate attempt to salvage their image after a perceived electoral defeat, adding that the message from the elections in both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir was clear – voters were showing their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In response, Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged discrepancies in the vote counts being reported by the EC on television. He claimed there was a mismatch between the actual number of rounds counted and the number being displayed on television. Khera accused the EC of lagging in its updates, alleging that they were showing results from the fourth or fifth round while eleven rounds had already been counted. Khera also suggested that the delay in data reporting could be an attempt to influence the local administration, pointing to the live updates provided for Jammu & Kashmir elections in contrast to the delayed reporting for Haryana.

Echoing these concerns, senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused the EC of attempting to sway the election results in favor of the BJP. He questioned the delay in uploading updated trends on the ECI website, implying a deliberate effort to present misleading information. Both Congress leaders criticized the alleged inconsistencies in the data reporting, suggesting a possible attempt by the BJP to influence the outcome of the elections.

Despite exit polls predicting a Congress victory, current trends indicate that the BJP may be on track for a hat-trick win in the Haryana Assembly elections. This has fueled the ongoing political tension, with both parties making accusations and defending their own positions. The final outcome of the elections and the accompanying legal challenges are likely to further intensify this debate, highlighting the complex dynamics of Indian politics.
