The assailants, claiming affiliation with the Bishnoi gang, have thrust the organization's inner workings into the public eye. Despite being incarcerated in Gujarat's Sabarmati Jail, Bishnoi has demonstrated an uncanny ability to control and orchestrate high-profile crimes from within the prison walls.
The Bishnoi gang's notoriety first surged following the murder of renowned Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala in 2022. Since then, their activities and associated criminals have consistently made headlines. Earlier this year, a video surfaced online allegedly showcasing Bishnoi engaged in a video call with Shahzad Bhatti, a Pakistan-based gangster. This further underscores the gang's trans-national reach and sophisticated communication network. NDTV highlights the use of mobile phones belonging to other inmates, often equipped with high-end VPNs, to obscure the identities and locations of those involved in Bishnoi's operations. These phones serve as a crucial link, facilitating communication and coordination among gang members, especially before carrying out crimes. Apps like Signal and Telegram are also utilized by Bishnoi to communicate with his associates in India and abroad, ensuring a constant flow of information and direction.
The Bishnoi gang's influence stretches beyond India, with strong ties to North America, particularly through Bishnoi's brother Anmol and associates like Goldy Brar and Rohit Godara. The gang's connections to Khalistani terrorist groups and separatist organizations based in North America further amplify their network and reach. The gang's operational structure is reported to be strikingly similar to a corporate entity, drawing inspiration from Dawood Ibrahim's D-Company. This meticulous organization allows the gang to maintain a large roster of sharpshooters (estimated to be around 700), along with specialized personnel to handle logistics, legal matters, and intelligence gathering.
A disturbing aspect of the Bishnoi gang's recruitment strategy is the targeting of impoverished and underage boys, often desperate for quick money. These individuals, lured into the gang's fold, are frequently unaware of the true nature of their work. They are simply given targets to eliminate, receiving payment for carrying out the contracts. The Bishnoi gang's operations serve as a chilling reminder of the pervasiveness of organized crime and the challenges faced by authorities in combating these intricate networks.
