The Bishnoi community, known for their strong belief in protecting wildlife, has expressed outrage over comments made by veteran screenplay writer Salim Khan about his son, Bollywood actor Salman Khan's involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. Following Salim Khan's recent interview where he claimed Salman was innocent and couldn't have harmed an animal, the Bishnoi community in Jaipur burned effigies of both Salman and Salim, accusing them of spreading misinformation.
The community's anger stems from Salim Khan's statement that Salman was not present during the incident and had never harmed any animals. They argue that these statements are misleading and false, given the fact that the case was registered 26 years ago with the presence of several dignitaries, including the then MLA of the Bishnoi community. The community emphasizes their commitment to ensuring justice in the Blackbuck case and vows to continue their protests on the streets.
In his interview, Salim Khan, speaking with ABP News, insisted that Salman has always been compassionate towards animals, citing his care for a sick pet dog. He dismissed any possibility of Salman being involved in hunting, claiming that Salman would never lie about such a thing. However, this statement contradicts previous interviews given by Salman himself. In a 2009 interview with Sonia Singh of NDTV, Salman admitted to being present during the incident, stating that he stopped his car when he saw a blackbuck, gave the animal water, and even fed it biscuits. Although he denied shooting the animal, he confirmed his encounter with the blackbuck. In another interview from 2008, Salman again stated that he did not shoot the animal, but he acknowledged that he was present at the scene. The conflicting statements between Salim Khan and Salman Khan have further fueled the outrage within the Bishnoi community.
The Blackbuck case has been a source of controversy for Salman Khan for years, with the actor facing multiple death threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, a member of the Bishnoi community. The community's strong stance against harming blackbucks stems from their deeply held religious beliefs, considering the animal sacred. The recent incident has brought the long-standing controversy back into the spotlight, with the Bishnoi community demanding accountability and justice in the case.
