  • Community emphasizes forgiveness for repentance.

The murder of former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, with alleged connections to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has brought Bollywood actor Salman Khan and the Bishnoi community back into the spotlight. Their decades-long, strained relationship stems from a 1998 blackbuck poaching case involving the superstar.

In an exclusive interview with Local 18, Devendra Buria, the National President of the All India Bishnoi Mahasabha, said that the actor may be forgiven but under specific conditions. Buria stated that Salman Khan must publicly acknowledge his wrongdoing and offer a sincere apology at Mukti Dham Mukam, a sacred site for the Bishnoi community. Only then will the community elders, guided by the 29 tenets of their faith, consider his plea.

“One of our core principles, bestowed upon us by Guru Jambheshwar Ji, emphasizes forgiveness for those who genuinely repent,” explained Buria. “If Salman Khan demonstrates true remorse, the Bishnoi community, known for its compassion, is open to considering his plea,” he added.

The 1998 incident, during the filming of “Hum Saath Saath Hain,” remains etched in the community’s memory. Mahipal Bishnoi, a community member, recounted the events of that night in Kankani village. Gunshots shattered the peace around 2 am, prompting villagers to investigate. They discovered two slain blackbucks and a fleeing vehicle. It was later found that Salman Khan had gone hunting with his fellow actors during the shooting of his film in Jodhpur.

The Bishnoi community’s 29 rules, encompassing environmental protection, personal conduct, and social responsibility, are central to their identity. These tenets, including the prohibition of harming animals and the emphasis on forgiveness, underpin their way of life.

The Bishnoi community, known for its strong adherence to its principles, has consistently demanded justice for the blackbuck poaching incident. The community’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection and their deep respect for all living creatures have been highlighted in this case. While the community is willing to consider Salman Khan’s plea for forgiveness, their decision hinges on his willingness to publicly acknowledge his wrongdoing and offer a sincere apology.
