Bengaluru Rains Cause Traffic Chaos, Waterlogging
  • Bengaluru faces heavy rainfall, causing traffic chaos.
  • Waterlogging reported on multiple roads, including Outer Ring Road.
  • IMD forecasts very heavy rain for Bengaluru till Thursday.

The city of Bengaluru was thrown into chaos on Tuesday morning due to heavy rainfall, leading to severe traffic disruptions and waterlogging in several areas. The Bengaluru Traffic Police reported widespread waterlogging on major roads, including segments of Outer Ring Road, Old Madras Road, Hoodi junction, M S Palya Depot Road, Hennur – Bagalur Main Road, Sultanpet junction, and Vibgyor School Road, among others. Several low-lying roads also succumbed to the heavy rainfall that commenced in the early hours of the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of very heavy rainfall for Bengaluru and surrounding districts of south interior Karnataka until Thursday, October 18th. Overcast conditions are expected to persist in the city for the next three to four days. The IMD attributes this rainfall to a low-pressure area forming in the Bay of Bengal, with an orange alert issued for south interior Karnataka districts until Thursday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall, are predicted in isolated parts of the region.

The heaviest rainfall in Bengaluru during the 24-hour period between October 14th and 15th was recorded at Hampi Nagar in Bengaluru South, where 26 mm of rain fell. While Bengaluru grapples with the downpour, other parts of Karnataka, including coastal Karnataka, are also experiencing heavy rains. Coastal Karnataka has been receiving continuous showers for over a week, with Mangaluru reporting 82 mm of rainfall on Monday. Kodagu and Malnad regions of Karnataka are also witnessing widespread showers.
