Baba Siddique Murder: Son Demands Justice, Police Investigate
  • Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister, was shot and killed on October 12.
  • Zeeshan Siddique, Baba's son and a Congress MLA, was also targeted.
  • Three men were arrested for the murder, and the motive remains unclear.

The shocking murder of Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister and prominent figure in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has sent shockwaves through the state. Siddique was gunned down on a Mumbai street on October 12, 2023, leaving behind a grieving family and raising serious questions about the safety and security of politicians. The incident has also sparked political controversy, with allegations of political motives and potential links to organized crime surfacing.

Zeeshan Siddique, Baba's son and a Congress MLA, has taken to social media to demand justice for his father's death. In a poignant post on X (formerly Twitter), Zeeshan expressed his grief and anger, stating that his father was killed while protecting innocent people. He vehemently condemned any attempt to politicize the tragedy and insisted that his father's death should not be in vain.

The Mumbai police have been quick to act, making significant progress in the investigation within 24 hours of the murder. They have arrested three key suspects - two of the alleged shooters and the brother of the suspected main conspirator. Preliminary investigations reveal that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was responsible for the assassination, though the motive behind the killing remains shrouded in mystery.

The arrested shooters, Dharmaraj Radhe Kashyap and Gurmail Singh, have reportedly provided crucial information during interrogations. According to police sources, the main conspirator is believed to be Shubham Remeshwar Lonkar, alias Shubuu, an alleged operative of the Bishnoi gang. Lonkar is said to have hatched the plan a month ago in Pune, sending the two shooters to Mumbai to carry out the assassination.

Gurmail Singh, a key member of the Bishnoi gang recently released on bail from a Haryana jail, was reportedly dispatched to Mumbai by Lonkar days before the attack. The three accused had rented accommodation in Kurla (West) and reportedly conducted reconnaissance for several days prior to the murder. This meticulous planning and execution suggest a highly organized operation, raising serious concerns about the gang's influence and reach.

The incident has once again brought into focus the issue of political violence and the vulnerability of public figures. It highlights the urgent need for stricter security measures and increased vigilance to protect politicians and other high-profile individuals from threats. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are determined to bring all those involved in the murder to justice.
