The investigation into the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique has taken another significant turn with the arrest of Amit Hisamsing Kumar. This 29-year-old resident of Nathwan Patti, Kaithal, Haryana, becomes the 11th person apprehended in connection with the case. The Mumbai Crime Branch, spearheading the investigation, is meticulously piecing together the events leading to the fatal shooting that occurred outside Siddique's office in Nirmal Nagar. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital on October 12th.
Authorities are exploring diverse motives behind the murder, including contract killing, business rivalry, or potential threats linked to a slum rehabilitation project in which Siddique was allegedly involved. While ten individuals have been arrested so far, including two suspected shooters, the main shooter and two conspirators remain elusive. It has come to light that the assailants engaged in at least five sessions in a forest along the Karjat-Khopoli road, honing their marksmanship skills.
The police revealed that the shooters practiced by firing at a tree in a forest near Palasadari village, close to a waterfall on the Karjat-Khopoli Road. During these sessions, they reportedly discharged between five and ten rounds, refining their aim. The practice sessions occurred in September, indicating meticulous planning and cold-blooded execution. The case further underscores the gravity of the situation with the suspension of police security guard Shyam Sonawane, who was present when the attack took place. According to the police, Sonawane failed to act against the assailants and is being investigated for potential negligence.
