Atishi Offered Controversial Bungalow Amidst Political Tensions
  • Atishi offered bungalow amidst controversy over alleged norm violations.
  • Atishi had to vacate the bungalow as it's under CBI investigation.
  • BJP accuses AAP of subverting due process in bungalow transfer.

The allocation of a bungalow to Atishi, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has become a focal point of political contention. The Public Works Department (PWD) offered Atishi the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road in Civil Lines, a residence previously occupied by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, but the process has been shrouded in controversy. The controversy stems from allegations of norm violations in the handover of the residence to Atishi, with both the BJP and AAP trading accusations about the legitimacy of the transfer.

The PWD initiated the handover process on October 9th, receiving the keys from Kejriwal's office and sending engineers to conduct an inventory. Atishi was required to move her belongings out of the residence, as the Chief Minister's office claimed she had occupied it after Kejriwal's departure. The offer letter for the bungalow states that the allotment will be canceled if Atishi fails to take possession within a specified timeframe. Moreover, the PWD highlighted that the bungalow is currently under investigation by the CBI and other agencies for alleged violations, and they advised Atishi to cooperate fully with the investigations. The PWD's offer also mandates that Atishi vacate any previously assigned government house or bungalow within 15 days after assuming possession of the new residence.

The BJP has alleged that the AAP government, under Kejriwal's leadership, attempted to bypass established protocols in transferring the bungalow to Atishi. They claimed that the former CM directly handed over the keys to Atishi, circumventing due process. The BJP further accused Kejriwal of surrendering the CM's residence to Atishi due to fear of scrutiny and accountability. In contrast, the AAP has vehemently denied these accusations, asserting that all due procedures were followed and that the keys were formally transferred to the PWD officials. The ongoing political tensions surrounding the bungalow allocation exemplify the deep-seated animosity between the BJP and the AAP in Delhi, with both parties accusing each other of foul play and political maneuvering.
