In a move to address growing public safety concerns and concerns over food adulteration, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a series of stringent directives aimed at enhancing accountability and hygiene standards in eateries across the state. The decision comes in response to alarming reports of food contamination, including instances of spitting and mixing urine in food items, which have sparked outrage and public outcry.
The new directives mandate that all food outlets, including hotels, restaurants, and dhabas, prominently display the names and addresses of their operators, proprietors, and managers. This measure aims to increase transparency and make it easier for authorities to hold individuals accountable for any violations. Additionally, chefs and waiters are now required to wear masks and gloves while preparing and serving food, further enhancing hygiene practices.
To bolster security and provide further evidence in case of incidents, CCTV cameras are now mandatory for all food establishments. These measures are intended to deter potential misconduct and provide visual documentation for investigations. The chief minister expressed his disgust at the presence of human waste in food, calling it 'disgusting,' and vowed to take stringent action against anyone found contaminating food with such substances.
The directives are a direct response to recent incidents that have shaken public trust in food safety. A video surfaced on social media in September showing a teenager spitting on rotis while preparing them at an eatery in Saharanpur district, leading to the arrest of the establishment's owner. In another incident, a juice vendor in Ghaziabad was arrested for allegedly serving fruit juices mixed with urine, while two men in Noida were apprehended for selling juice contaminated with their saliva.
The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a proactive stance in addressing these concerns, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its citizens. The new regulations, coupled with increased scrutiny and enforcement, aim to create a more secure and hygienic environment for food consumption. It remains to be seen how effectively these measures will address the problem of food adulteration and restore public confidence in the state's food industry.
