The recent heavy rains and subsequent flooding in Telangana have caused significant damage, particularly in the Khammam district. To assess the situation and provide support to the affected population, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan undertook an aerial survey of the affected areas on September 6, 2024. He was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, demonstrating a collaborative effort between the central and state governments in disaster relief.

The aerial survey encompassed key areas within Khammam district, including Khammam town, Kusumanchi, and Madhira. The Minister's focus included inspecting the damage inflicted upon critical infrastructure, such as the Palair main canal and a section of the Khammam-Suryapet highway. These inspections aimed to understand the extent of damage and identify immediate areas requiring intervention and rehabilitation.

Beyond the aerial assessment, Mr. Chouhan engaged directly with farmers impacted by the heavy rains on August 31 and September 1, 2024, in Jujjularaopeta, Kusumanchi mandal. This firsthand interaction allowed him to grasp the challenges faced by the agricultural community, a vital segment of the local economy. Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao provided detailed briefings to the Union Ministers on the widespread damage caused by the floods, highlighting the need for comprehensive assistance and relief measures.
