TMC Blasts BJP for Politicizing Doctor's Death
  • TMC criticizes BJP for politicizing doctor's death.
  • BJP accused of using tragedy for political gain.
  • TMC demands swift justice and condemns fake videos.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other political parties for allegedly exploiting the death of a woman doctor at a state-run hospital in West Bengal for political gain. The incident, which occurred in August 2024, has sparked outrage and protests across the state, with junior doctors going on strike to demand justice and accountability.

TMC leader and Minister Shashi Panja accused the BJP of cynically using the tragedy to advance its own political agenda, stating that the party's actions are deeply insensitive and disrespectful to the victim's family. Panja highlighted a recent instance during a debate on the anti-rape Bill passed by the West Bengal Assembly, where a BJP legislator demanded immediate justice for the victim's family, suggesting that the party's interest lies in political maneuvering rather than genuine concern for the grieving family.

Panja further condemned the proliferation of fake videos on social media, including one alleging that the victim's parents were bribed to remain silent, and another contradicting this claim. She asserted that these videos are being spread by the BJP's IT cell, further escalating the distress of the grieving family. She emphasized that the victim's parents are solely seeking justice for their daughter and called for an end to the politicization of this tragedy.

The TMC leader demanded a swift and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of the crime, emphasizing that the victim deserves justice. She also condemned the circulation of the post-mortem report on social media, deeming it an invasion of privacy and a further injustice to the deceased. She urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently investigating the case, to expedite the probe and bring the perpetrators to justice.

West Bengal Education Minister and senior TMC leader Bratya Basu expressed concern over the lack of progress in the CBI investigation despite receiving all relevant documents from the Kolkata Police 23 days prior. He questioned the agency's lack of transparency and the BJP's claims of evidence tampering, demanding clarification on the alleged tampering and an explanation for the CBI's silence on the matter.

The death of the doctor has sparked nationwide protests, with junior doctors in West Bengal demanding justice and accountability. The TMC has expressed support for the doctors' agitation, recognizing its justification and urging empathy for their concerns. The party believes that the doctors will resume their duties once the situation is adequately addressed and justice is served.

This incident highlights the sensitive nature of such tragedies and the need for responsible political conduct. The TMC's strong condemnation of the BJP's alleged actions underscores the importance of allowing grieving families to seek justice without political interference. The demand for swift action from the CBI and the public outcry for justice underscore the urgency of the situation and the need for accountability in this sensitive case.
