Thackeray Accuses Shah of Directing BJP to Split Opposition
  • Uddhav Thackeray claims Amit Shah directed BJP leaders to split opposition parties
  • Shah allegedly asked BJP leaders to 'politically stop' Thackeray and Sharad Pawar
  • Thackeray questions RSS chief Bhagwat's agreement with BJP's 'Hindutva' strategy

The political landscape of Maharashtra is heating up with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray leveling serious allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Thackeray claims Shah, in a closed-door meeting with BJP leaders, instructed them to dismantle the opposition ranks and target him and NCP chief Sharad Pawar politically. This accusation comes ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, adding fuel to the already heated political discourse.

Thackeray, speaking at an event after inaugurating a life-size statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Ramtek city, accused Shah of employing underhanded tactics. He questioned the need for such clandestine meetings, urging Shah to openly articulate his strategy. Thackeray further alleged that Shah's objective is to politically eliminate him and Sharad Pawar, paving the way for the BJP to 'loot' Maharashtra. The former Maharashtra chief minister accused the BJP of betraying their three-decade-old alliance with the (undivided) Shiv Sena in 2014, prior to the assembly elections.

Thackeray's remarks also questioned the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's stance on the BJP's brand of 'Hindutva.' He wondered if Bhagwat supports the BJP's strategy of breaking opposition parties and poaching their leaders. This statement underscores the growing rift between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the BJP, once considered allies, and brings into focus the ideological differences between the two parties.

The upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections are shaping up to be a fierce battle between the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP(SP). The MVA, having won 30 out of 40 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra, is confident of their electoral prospects. NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar has indicated that the seat-sharing talks between the MVA allies will be concluded within 8 to 10 days. The parties are seeking feedback from their workers on potential candidates for each seat.

Thackeray's accusations and the ensuing political drama have escalated tensions ahead of the crucial elections. It remains to be seen how these developments will influence the voters and shape the political landscape of Maharashtra. With the BJP and the MVA locked in a fierce contest, the upcoming elections are set to be a high-stakes battle for power and control of the state.
