An encounter erupted on Wednesday between security forces and terrorists in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, specifically near the Kathua-Basantgarh border. The Indian Army announced that two terrorists were successfully neutralized during the operation, which is still ongoing. The exchange of fire commenced when a joint unit, comprising personnel from the Army's first para and the police, advanced towards Khandara Top, acting upon intelligence that indicated the presence of a militant group in the area.
The terrorists initiated the firing at approximately 12.50pm, targeting the approaching search teams. A senior official confirmed the details, stating, "A joint team of local police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Khandara Top of Basantgarh. As the joint team of security forces came close to the hiding terrorists, they fired upon the security forces, triggering an encounter." Additional personnel were dispatched to the region to assist in neutralizing the remaining militants, as reported by officials participating in the operation.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel was injured as a result of unprovoked firing from Pakistani troops aimed at Indian posts in the Akhnoor area. A BSF spokesperson provided information about the incident, stating, "At about 2.35 am, an incident of unprovoked firing in the Akhnoor area from across the border happened and which was befittingly responded by the BSF. One BSF personnel sustained injuries in Pakistani firing." The spokesperson further emphasized that the troops are maintaining a high level of alertness and vigilant observation along the entire International Border and Line of Control.
