The state of Telangana is bracing for heavy rainfall, with the meteorological department issuing a warning for 11 districts. The Chief Secretary, A. Santhi Kumari, has placed the collectors of these districts on high alert, instructing them to take necessary precautions and coordinate with police and other departments. The affected districts include Adilabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Medak, Medchal Malkajigiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapelli, Sangareddy, and Siddipet.

In anticipation of the heavy rains, the Chief Secretary held a teleconference with the collectors and SPs of the affected districts. To address the potential impact of the continuous downpour over the past few days, officials have been directed to take comprehensive measures. The collectors have been given the authority to declare holidays for educational institutions based on the local weather conditions.

The situation in Nirmal district is particularly concerning due to the release of water from the Swarna and Kadem projects. The Nirmal collector has been instructed to relocate residents of low-lying areas to safe locations. In response to the rising water levels, a 31-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team along with four boats has been deployed to the district.

The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of monitoring the water levels at the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP) and coordinating with authorities in Maharashtra, the source of the catchment area, to understand the volume of water flowing in. She emphasized the need to implement necessary precautionary measures in the catchment areas.

The teleconference was attended by prominent officials, including the DGP Jitender, special chief secretary of Disaster Management Arvind Kumar, DG of Fire Services Nagi Reddy, and special secretary to the Irrigation department Prashanth Jeevan Patil. This collaborative effort reflects the state government's commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens in the face of the impending heavy rains.
