Tata Motors Group has announced plans to establish a new passenger vehicle (PV) manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. This significant investment signals a strong commitment from the automotive giant to expand its production capabilities and cater to the growing demand for next-generation vehicles in both domestic and international markets.
The new facility is expected to generate over 5,000 employment opportunities, both direct and indirect. It will be powered entirely by renewable energy, reflecting Tata Motors' commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. This emphasis on green practices aligns with the company's vision for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the facility was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who highlighted the Tata Group's long-standing relationship with the state and welcomed the investment. He commended Tata Motors for choosing Tamil Nadu as the location for its newest manufacturing plant, emphasizing the state's favorable industrial policies and skilled workforce.
Tata Motors Group is prepared to invest nearly Rs 9,000 crore in this greenfield manufacturing facility, which will boast an annual production capacity of over 250,000 units. Production is set to begin in a phased manner and gradually ramp up to reach this target capacity within the next 5 to 7 years. This strategic move underscores the company's confidence in the future of the automotive industry and its ambition to expand its market share.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed his excitement about Panapakkam becoming the home for Tata Motors' next generation of vehicles, including electric and luxury models. He praised Tamil Nadu as a leading industrial state with a supportive environment for automotive manufacturers, thanks to its well-established automotive hub, qualified workforce, and progressive policies. He further highlighted the success of several Tata Group companies operating in the state.
The company aims to implement cutting-edge manufacturing technology and world-class sustainability practices at its new plant. Notably, Tata Motors plans to promote diversity and inclusivity by aiming for a high share of women employees across various levels, demonstrating its commitment to empowering women in the workplace.
