A 38-year-old man, who recently arrived from the UAE, has been admitted to Manjeri Medical College Hospital in Kerala after exhibiting symptoms consistent with the virus. The man, a resident of Malappuram, has been isolated while awaiting the results of his sample, which has been sent to Kozhikode Medical College for testing. The test results will not only confirm the presence of mpox but also identify the specific strain involved.
This latest case comes just days after a suspected case of monkeypox was confirmed in Delhi. A 26-year-old man from Haryana tested positive for the virus after returning from abroad. These incidents highlight the growing threat of mpox in India and underscore the importance of vigilance and prompt medical attention.
While the situation in India remains under close scrutiny, other countries are also grappling with the ongoing mpox outbreak. Malaysia, for instance, has reported a new case of the virus, but thankfully, the strain identified is a less severe variant and not the highly transmissible clade 1b strain. The case, reported in a man who began displaying symptoms on September 11th, has brought the total number of cases in Malaysia to 10 since July.
