The city of Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu is preparing for a large-scale security operation on Monday, September 9, as the annual Vinayaka Chaturthi festival reaches its culmination with the immersion of idols. This event draws thousands of devotees to the banks of the Cauvery River, demanding a robust security presence and traffic management plan. The Tiruchi City Police have announced a comprehensive strategy to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the processions and immersion ceremonies.
Over 200 Vinayaka idols, kept at various public places throughout the city, are scheduled to be immersed in the Cauvery River on both its northern and southern banks. The police have deployed over 1,500 personnel across strategic locations to monitor the processions and ensure they adhere to designated routes. This includes establishing pickets at more than 25 points within the city, deploying surveillance cameras to monitor movements, and stationing officers at crucial junctions, sensitive areas, checkpoints, and places of worship along the procession routes. The immersion points themselves have also been equipped with surveillance cameras. To facilitate the immersion process, temporary arrangements have been made along the Cauvery bridge.
Recognizing the potential for significant traffic congestion during the procession, the Tiruchi City Police have implemented a detailed traffic diversion plan. The diversions will take effect from 4:00 PM on Monday, September 9, and will remain in place until 6:00 AM on Tuesday, September 10. The plan includes specific routes for various bus types, from mofussil buses to city buses, ensuring passengers are dropped off at designated locations and transported to their destinations smoothly. Heavy vehicles and freight carriers traveling on certain routes have also been directed to use alternative paths to avoid congestion in the city center.
This comprehensive security plan and traffic management strategy highlight the Tiruchi City Police's dedication to ensuring a safe and orderly Vinayaka Chaturthi festival. By coordinating with multiple agencies and deploying a significant number of personnel, the police aim to prevent any untoward incidents and facilitate the smooth conduct of the processions and immersion ceremonies. The successful execution of this plan will be crucial in maintaining the sanctity and joy of the festival for the devotees participating in it.
