  • Government provides relief and sanitation measures to flood victims.

The recent floods in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, have caused significant damage and disruption to the city. In response to this disaster, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has announced plans to construct a retaining wall to prevent future flooding. The decision comes after an inspection of the affected areas by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Dr. P. Narayana and MSME Minister Kondapalli Srinivas.

The government is taking a multi-pronged approach to address the flood situation. Apart from the retaining wall, the water resources department has been instructed to increase the height of the Budameru bunds, which will further strengthen the city's defenses against flooding. Minister Narayana has assured residents that the floodwaters will recede by Monday and that the government will be providing them with necessary support until they fully recover.

The government's efforts extend beyond flood prevention to include immediate relief and recovery measures. The ministers visited flood-hit areas to personally assess the situation and speak with residents, assuring them of the government's commitment to helping them overcome the challenges. Food and essential supplies are being distributed to affected households, and sanitation and cleaning work is underway in flooded areas. The government is also taking proactive steps to address the root cause of the flooding, acknowledging the role of encroachment of irrigation canals in exacerbating the damage.
