Puri Criticizes Gandhi's 'Divisive Narrative'
  • Puri accuses Gandhi of divisive agenda
  • Gandhi's comments seen as sinister
  • Modi's leadership praised for Sikh initiatives

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accusing him of harboring a 'Jinnah-like' mindset and attempting to sow discord within India. Puri, currently on a visit to the United States, expressed his strong disapproval of Gandhi's recent statements, alleging they are driven by a desire to exploit political opportunities at the expense of national unity.

Puri's condemnation stems from Gandhi's remarks that he believes were aimed at creating a sense of insecurity and division within India. The Minister specifically cited Gandhi's silence on Sikh issues while in India, contrasting it with his recent pronouncements on the community in the United States. Puri labelled this as a deliberate tactic to manipulate sentiments and sow discord for political gain.

In contrast to his criticism of Gandhi, Puri commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, highlighting the initiatives taken by his government to address Sikh concerns and grievances. He cited the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor as a prime example of Modi's commitment to the Sikh community, alongside efforts to remove Sikh names from blacklists and commemorate the contributions of the Sahibzadas.

Puri further argued that every community has grievances and that it's natural for the majority community to experience a sense of marginalization at times. He asserted that India's robust democratic system, evidenced by the high voter turnout, ensures that the voices of all citizens are heard and represented. However, his assertion of 'grievances' from the majority community may be considered problematic, as it could be perceived as minimizing the concerns of minority communities, thus contributing to the very divisive narrative he criticizes.
