Pune Police Arrest Two in Vanraj Andekar Murder Case
  • Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar.
  • Four more suspects are still at large and being actively sought by the police.
  • Vanraj's murder may be linked to family disputes, particularly with his brother-in-law.

The murder of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar has sent shockwaves through Pune, with the city's police making significant progress in the investigation. Two suspects, Jayant Laxman Komkar (52) and Ganesh Laxman Komkar (37), both residents of Bhawani Peth, were apprehended early this morning. The arrests follow the brutal incident which occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, prompting the registration of an FIR at Samarth Police Station.

Police Head Constable Sachin Ahiwale, stationed at Vishrambaug Police Station, received crucial information regarding the accused individuals, leading to their swift capture. They were subsequently handed over to the Samarth Police Station for further interrogation. Senior Police Inspector Vijayamala Pawar, in charge of Vishrambaug Police Station, confirmed the arrests.

While two suspects have been apprehended, the investigation is far from over. Police sources have revealed that four additional individuals have been identified as suspects and are currently on the run. Authorities are actively pursuing these individuals, intensifying their search efforts to bring them to justice.

The murder of Vanraj Andekar, the son of Bandu alias Suryakant Andekar, notorious leader of the Andekar gang, has cast a shadow of suspicion on the family's history of political involvement and criminal activity. The Andekar gang was known for its strong presence in the Nana Peth area of Pune city. Sources suggest that the motive behind Vanraj's murder may lie in ongoing disputes within the extended family, particularly with his brother-in-law, Komkar.

The assailants are reported to have fired approximately five bullets at Vanraj before attacking him with sharp weapons. Despite being rushed to KEM Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The Andekar family's political background extends beyond Vanraj, with his mother, Rajashree Andekar, having served as a corporator in 2007 and 2012. However, the family's criminal history is equally prominent, with Vanraj's father, Suryakant Andekar, facing numerous charges including murder, attempted murder, extortion, and kidnapping.

The investigation into Vanraj Andekar's murder continues, with the police determined to uncover the truth behind the crime and hold all those involved accountable. The recent arrests are a significant step forward, but the pursuit of the remaining suspects remains a top priority. The complex family dynamics and criminal history surrounding the Andekar family add another layer of complexity to the investigation, making it one of the most high-profile cases in recent Pune history.
