Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant infrastructure development initiative in Odisha, laying foundation stones and inaugurating four railway projects valued at a substantial Rs 2,871 crore. These projects, spanning various locations across the state, are envisioned to enhance rail connectivity, alleviate congestion on crucial routes, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region. The Prime Minister's visit underscores the government's commitment to bolstering India's transportation infrastructure, particularly in areas with significant potential for growth and development.
Among the key projects inaugurated was the 25 km Lanjigarh Road-Ambadola-Doikallu railway section, a vital component of the Vizianagaram-Titilagarh third line project. This section, constructed at a cost of Rs 432 crore, will facilitate smoother freight movement, enhancing connectivity between western Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time and costs for goods transportation, boosting trade and commerce between the two states.
Another significant project completed is the 23 km Laxmipur Road-Singaram-Tikiri railway section, a part of the Koraput-Singapur road doubling project. This project, completed at a cost of Rs 260 crore, aims to increase train movement capacity in southern Odisha. The project is anticipated to effectively address congestion issues and streamline freight movement from resource-rich areas to major markets. This, in turn, will foster economic activity and generate employment opportunities in the region.
In addition to these completed projects, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stones for several new initiatives. These include a 7 km flyover between Siju and Paradeep coaching yard, costing Rs 200 crore. This flyover aims to eliminate surface crossings at Paradeep Port, facilitating smoother train movements and ensuring seamless cargo transportation. The project is expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce delays, boosting the port's overall capacity.
Another crucial project that received the green light is the expansion of the Paradeep-Badabandha third and fourth line, spanning 19 km and costing Rs 300 crore. This project is designed to significantly boost capacity for both freight and passenger traffic, enhancing connectivity to Paradeep Port and facilitating smoother movement of goods and people. The expansion is expected to drive economic growth in the region by providing reliable and efficient transport infrastructure.
The doubling of the MCRL Inner Corridor Phase-1, spanning 10.93 km and costing Rs 152 crore, is another vital project aimed at facilitating smooth coal evacuation. This project will significantly enhance the capacity of the rail network to transport coal, a crucial resource for various industries. The project is expected to contribute to the smooth functioning of the coal industry and promote economic activity in the region.
The most anticipated project inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi is the 41.9 km Jeypore-Nabarangpur New Line, built at a cost of Rs 748 crore. This project, a key step in connecting the tribal-dominated regions of Jeypore and Nabarangpur, is expected to play a transformative role in fostering economic growth and improving access to markets and resources for the area's population. The project will provide much-needed infrastructure for the region, connecting isolated communities and opening up opportunities for economic development and social upliftment.
