Naidu to Consult Priests on Tirupati Laddu Controversy

Naidu to Consult Priests on Tirupati Laddu Controversy
  • Andhra CM Naidu will consult priests and Hinduism experts to decide the next step in the Tirupati Balaji temple 'adulterated prasadam' controversy.
  • Naidu alleges that laddus offered as prasadam during the previous government contained animal fat.
  • Amul, a dairy giant, has denied supplying ghee to the temple and filed an FIR against misinformation campaigns.

The controversy surrounding the use of animal fat in the 'laddus' offered as prasadam at the Tirupati Balaji temple has taken a new turn with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announcing his decision to consult priests and 'top Hinduism experts' to determine the next course of action. This announcement comes on the heels of Naidu's sensational claim, made days prior, that laddus containing 'animal fat' were offered during the previous government led by his political rival, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Naidu's assertion has been supported by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the body that manages the temple, while Reddy has firmly denied the allegations. In response to the controversy, Naidu has emphasized the need for a 'samprokshana' (ritualistic sanitisation) of the temple and has sought guidance from religious leaders and scholars on how to proceed. He has also highlighted the unique and historical significance of the Tirupati laddu, stating that despite numerous attempts, no one has been able to replicate it successfully, including those in Ayodhya.

Adding another layer of complexity to the situation, Gujarat-based dairy giant Amul has filed a First Information Report (FIR) claiming a 'misinformation campaign' surrounding the ghee used in the laddus. Amul has categorically denied supplying ghee to the TTD and clarified that its ghee is produced from milk in certified facilities. The company has expressed concern over the potential damage to its brand reputation due to the false accusations.

The controversy surrounding the Tirupati Balaji temple's prasadam has sparked intense debate and raised questions about the authenticity of religious practices and the role of politics in religious affairs. Naidu's decision to consult religious leaders for guidance is indicative of the deep-rooted faith and cultural significance of the temple in the region. However, the controversy has also exposed the potential for political manipulation and misinformation within a highly sensitive religious context.
