Musheer Khan Injured in Road Accident, Doubtful for Irani Cup
  • Musheer Khan, brother of Sarfaraz Khan, injured in a road accident.
  • The accident occurred while traveling from Azamgarh to Lucknow.
  • Khan's injury is a setback for his promising first-class career.

Musheer Khan, the promising Mumbai all-rounder and younger brother of India batter Sarfaraz Khan, has suffered a fracture in the neck region due to a road accident on the outskirts of Lucknow on Friday. The accident occurred while Musheer was traveling from his hometown of Azamgarh to Lucknow for the upcoming Irani Cup, scheduled to begin on October 1st. As a result of the injury, his participation in the Irani Cup and the initial rounds of the Ranji Trophy, which follows, is highly unlikely.

A statement released by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Saturday confirmed the injury and stated that Musheer is stable, conscious, and well-oriented. The hospital where he is admitted also reported that he is out of danger. According to eyewitness accounts and information from the Lucknow Police traffic directorate, the accident involved Musheer's SUV, a Toyota Fortuner, which collided with a median and overturned. He was traveling with his father and two others at the time of the accident.

The MCA statement further stated that Musheer will be flown back to Mumbai for further evaluation and treatment once medically cleared. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the MCA medical teams are closely monitoring his progress to ensure he receives the best possible care. Once back in Mumbai, Musheer is expected to be taken to a BCCI-mandated hospital for a detailed assessment.

This unfortunate incident comes as a significant setback for Musheer, who had been enjoying a phenomenal start to his first-class career. He has amassed three centuries and a half-century in just nine first-class matches, including a double-hundred in last season's Ranji Trophy quarter-final, a half-century in the semi-final, and a match-winning century in the final against Vidarbha. Earlier this month, he began the new domestic season with a remarkable 181 runs against a strong India A attack in the Duleep Trophy.

Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan has been released from the Indian Test squad in Kanpur to participate in the Irani Cup. His availability for the tournament was contingent on not being selected for India's XI in the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh. While Musheer's injury is a blow to his personal ambitions, the news comes as a double whammy for the Mumbai cricket team, who are looking to defend their Ranji Trophy title.
