A tragic incident unfolded in Manipur on Friday afternoon when suspected militants launched a bomb attack in the residential area of Moirang, Bishnupur district, leaving one elderly man dead and five others injured. The attack targeted the compound of former Chief Minister Mairembam Koireng's residence, with an improvised rocket exploding within the premises. The elderly man, who was preparing for religious rituals, perished on the spot due to the impact of the explosion. The injured include a 13-year-old girl, highlighting the devastating consequences of this senseless act of violence.

The attack comes amidst a backdrop of rising tensions and unrest in Manipur. The incident occurred just two kilometers away from the Indian National Army (INA) headquarters, a site of historical significance. On April 14, 1944, Lieutenant Colonel Shaukat Ali of the INA hoisted the Tricolor Flag of free India for the first time on Indian soil under the guidance of INA Supreme Commander Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Moirang. This historical event holds a special place in the annals of India's freedom struggle, and the recent bomb attack casts a shadow over its legacy.

Earlier in the day, another rocket was fired from an elevated position in the nearby hill areas, targeting the low-lying residential locality of Tronglaobi, located approximately 45 kilometers from the state capital Imphal. The incident underscores the growing threat posed by militant groups in the region and the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect innocent lives. The authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing violence and instability that plague Manipur, demanding decisive action from both state and central governments to address the root causes of conflict and restore peace in the region.
