The relationship between the Maldives and India has been a topic of significant discussion in recent months, marked by a period of tension following the election of President Mohamed Muizzu in November 2023. His campaign platform included an “India-out” stance, advocating for the withdrawal of Indian military personnel from the Maldives. This stance, while controversial, led to the replacement of Indian military presence with civilian personnel.
