The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Assembly elections in Maharashtra will be held before November 26, 2024. This announcement was made by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar during a press conference, where he also revealed that the ECI team had met with leaders from 11 political parties in the state.
During their meetings, the ECI team discussed the upcoming elections with leaders from national and regional parties, including the BSP, AAP, CPI(M), INC, MNS, SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Shiv Sena. The parties expressed their desire for the ECI to consider major festivals like Diwali, Dev Diwali, and Chhath Puja before finalizing the election dates. These festivals hold significant cultural and religious importance in Maharashtra, and parties believe that scheduling elections during these periods could disrupt celebrations and potentially impact voter turnout.
The ECI is now tasked with considering these requests and finalizing the specific dates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections. The announcement of the exact election dates will be closely watched by political observers and the general public alike. It will mark the beginning of a crucial electoral period for the state, with all parties gearing up to contest the elections and secure a majority in the Assembly.
